Scott McCloud has a nice interview in the April issue of The Believer. The entire thing is also posted online so you don’t have to hunt down a copy of the magazine. I guess you could just read it at Barns and Noble too … Go give it a read.

Also: McCloud. Inkstuds. Podcast. Interview. ‘Nuff said.

Comic Statue Coming to Columbia

Posted by Winter on July 1, 2007

The new expansion to Brady Commons at MU is going to house an eatery called “Mort’s Place” after Mort walker, the creator of Beatle Baily. There will be an adjoining area based around “The Shack” as well, which was an old hangout for MU students that is now gone. There’s going to be some Beatle Baily decor in this place, including a Beatle statue. Part of the expansion will open sometime in 2008, so we got a while to wait on this one …I saw this story (and concept sketches) in the latest Columbia Business Times, but you can get some more info about it in @Mizzou.

Book Burning in Kansas City

Posted by Winter on July 1, 2007

Prosperos books, a used bookstore in midtown Kansas City held a book burning May 27th. No joke… but an interesting publicity stunt to be sure. Check out the story.

They’re a small book store, but carry local self published stuff in addition to used books (and graphic novels). Check them out if you find yourself in KC sometime.

Scott McCloud signing in St. Louis

Posted by Winter on July 1, 2007

We’ll we couldn’t come up with the funds to get McCloud here in Columbia, but he’s going to be making an apperance in a St. Louis comic shop instead.

The press release: “Scott McCloud, author of such seminal works as Understanding Comics and Reinventing Comics, is bringing his 50 State Tour to Star Clipper Friday, July 13! The nationwide tour was conceived to celebrate the HarperCollins release of Scott’s new book Making Comics. Scott will be at Star Clipper for an informal Q and A session followed by a book signing.

The event is from 4-7pm, or at least it says that on their MySpace page (The Star Clipper Website says the time will be announced later??).

FYI: If you’d like to read his latest book, our local public library has a copy that you can check out if you want.
