The annual True/False film fest is coming up Feburary 26 – March 1st in Columbia. The poster for the fest this year is by local illustrator/cartoonist David Friesen.
Comic fans shouldn’t miss one comic related film that they have on the schedule. Waltz with Bashir is an animated documentary following the horrors of the 1982 Lebanon war. It looks like a graphic novel brought to life, and has been getting a fair amount of critical buzz.
The film is showing Friday, Feb. 27 at 7:30PM in the Missouri Theatre and Saturday, Feb. 28 at 12:30PM in the Big Ragtag. In person will be producer Yael Nahlieli. You can get tickets by purchasing one of the festival passes, visiting the T/F box office (during open hours), or catch any remaining tickets at a venue 10 minutes before showtime. You can look at the ticket FAQ for more details.

Update: The Tribune ran a story about the T/F poster.
What a turnout we had at the last Midmococo meeting! So many people, so few pencils. My beautiful, mechanical pencil with the comfy finger padding and extra long eraser managed to go home with someone. I hope if finds its way back to me someday … sigh.
Anyway, enough with the passive aggressive whining. Don’t forget that our March meeting is going to be at the Panera Bread on the South side of town since downtown will be busy with the True/Falase film festival.
Kansas City’s largest pop culture and comic book convention is coming up soon! Some of our members, myself included, are planning on getting tables in Artist’s Alley this year and it was proposed at our last meeting that we should try to sit together and chip in to create a MidMoCoCo banner for the group. I am awaiting a response from Chris Jackson about the likelihood of making that happen but in the meantime I would encourage anyone who is interested to either contact me or go ahead and submit an application to Artist’s Alley. There is a section on the application to request sitting next to someone. You can put either my name or Midmococo in that section. Hopefully we can make a presence at this year’s convention. Even if you do not plan on getting a table at the convention I would highly encourage attending. It’s a fun show with lots of big names, including Matt Fraction, Phil Hester, Ande Parks, Michael Golden, Chris Samnee and Tony Moore. We could even have a Midmococo get together that Saturday night!
We will probably discuss this more at the March meeting. For more information about the convention itself visit the official website at www.planetcomicon.com.
UPDATE: Chris Jackson has said that we will be able to group together in Artist’s Alley. Just be sure to mention “Midmococo” on your application.
