Local Columbia Access Television has uploaded a presentation by David Mowder, an illustrator for Hallmark. This is the second of several presentations that CAT recorded at Toonfest 2009 in Marceline MO. You can watch the presentation online, or check the broadcast air times to see when you can catch it via Mediacom (channel 85), Charter (channel 21) or the CAT online stream.
Local cartoonist Jeremy Burt has gotten some mention from the local press lately. The Missourian had a front page article on Burt, and a Tribune blog mentioned that they have a story coming up about him as well.
It seems Burt’s comic Jeremy And Tim was entered in Amazon.com’s Comic Strip Superstar competition. Burt made it to the top 250 cartoonists out of 5,000, but was cut today from semi-finals that narrowed it down to 50 cartoonists. You can read his full submission up online.
October 16th – 18th is a new convention in Springfield MO called GAME: Gaming Arts Media Expo. It’s three days of focus on the “geeky arts.” Here’s what to expect:
Role-playing, “Warmachine Weekend”, Anime theater, panel discussions with writers, podcasters, artist and authors, game development contest, a dealer’s area, and much more.
The second annual Citizen Jane Film Festival is coming to Columbia October 16th – 18th. The festival has a couple of programs featuring work by cartoonists.
Saturday at 11:15AM and at 5:00pm is the animated film $9.99. Animator and concept illustrator Shira Derman will be in person. Derman has contributed comics to The Novel of Nonel and Vovel which is a recently released graphic novel co-written by Israeli artist Oreet Ashery and Palestian artist Larissa Sansour.
First, thanks to Josh for getting the follow-up post in a timely manner. I was completely wiped after the weekend and was unable to do anything half-way coherent for a while. Big thanks to everyone for making it out this weekend and making this yet another successful event! We would like to post everyone’s stories on the blog so please send us a link when you get a chance!
Also also, if you get a chance be sure to let Lisa Bartlett at Artlandish know how much we appreciated her letting us use the space this year! Thanks again and hurry up and get those stories in!
In his attempt to woo the new girl, Opey ends up making her dislike him even more. On top of that he gets some jail-time. What’s a pre-pubesent, antisocial, nuclear warhead, in a post-apocalyptic world to do? Find out in issue 4 of Opey the Warhead.
Midmococo’s 24 Hour Comics Day event was a huge success this year thanks to the hard work of Scott. I don’t think it could have gone any better and the space at Artlandish was perfect. Thanks to everyone who participated and thanks to Artlandish for providing the space.
In case you missed out on the event, you can read about it in the story the Missourian wrote: A drawn-out, comical day.
If you did participate, don’t forget to scan your work and publish it on the Web so we can link to it in a future post.
Just a quick update: I will be at Artlandish today from 4:30-5:30 getting things set up. If you have tables and chairs to bring or if you just want to help set up and can make it during this time please feel free to stop by. I did not receive any artwork from anyone via email so I am assuming we will not be hanging up any art this year (maybe next time!)
Checking the total tally of artists who have preregistered and it looks like I was off by one: We currently have 15 artists registered for the event. If you do not email me before tonight you CAN still participate in 24 Hour Comics day with us, but we cannot guarantee you a seat at a table, at least for the first part. I think we can squeeze in a couple more people at tables but I won’t be sure until after set up tonight.
Again, please try to be at Artlandish tomorrow by 11:30 at the latest. I will be there at 11:00 for last minute set-up and to get everything ready. It looks like this year will be a good mix of both familiar faces from previous 24 Hour Comics Days as well as some new ones. The event will be open to the public for a portion of the day Saturday and Sunday, so keep that in mind when picking your spot to work.
I hope everyone is as excited as I am about this year’s event! See you all tomorrow!
