24 Hour Comics Day Update

Posted by on September 21, 2010

We’ve already had 8 participants reserve their spots at the 24 Hour Comics Day event at Artlandish on October 2nd.  Again, please remember that the only way to guarantee yourself a spot is by making a reservation via email to testtubecomics@yahoo.com.  Otherwise it will be first come/first served for anyone who comes the day of the event.

Here’s the specifics about our 24 Hour Comics Day: It is recommended to arrive at least 20-30 minutes before the event in order to set up your space and get settled in.  We will provide space, seating and some refreshments.  You must bring your own supplies and anything else you feel you will need.  We usually have non-participant volunteers to make a dinner run, which is usually determined by everyone at the event (please bring some cash if you plan on pitching in to make it easier on our runners), and last year Ernie’s made for an ideal spot to have breakfast and get away from staring at the art for a while.  You do have the option to fend for yourself if you prefer to dine alone, but it’s always more fun to eat with the group.

It is recommended to bring healthy snacks to the event. Overdosing in sugary stuff can hurt your chances at completing the project.  It is also recommended to get a full night sleep and eat a big lunch/brunch before the event so you have plenty of energy the day of.

I will be setting up Friday, October 1st, and would greatly appreciate any assistance.  Please email me if you can help out.  There is also a Facebook event page created; if you are on Facebook and would like to be invited please let me know.  On the other end if you’ve confirmed you will attend the event on Facebook but haven’t emailed me at testtubecomics@yahoo.com please do so I can have all my bases covered.
I am really looking forward to our 5th consecutive year of participating in the 24 Hour Comics Day event and am hoping we can maximize the amount of people participating this year! Ideally I would like everyone starting out at noon Saturday to be there at noon Sunday, even if they have to leave for a few hours or early that night, for a proposed “Caffeine Toast” at the end of the event to celebrate everyone’s accomplishment.  I’m sure will talk more about it the day of but I wanted to throw that out there now.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!  Again, PLEASE reserve your spot if you want a guaranteed seat!

Superheroes for Columbia schools

Posted by on September 15, 2010

At a press conference yesterday the Columbia Public Schools Foundation announced a plan to attempt to break the world record for the most people dressed as superheroes in one location. The Be a Superhero for Columbia Public Schools event starts at 11 a.m. on Oct. 30th at the Hickman High School football field. The Guinness book of world records count will be taken at 12:15 p.m. to determine whether the record of 1,245 costumed attendees has been broken. People must be dressed as a recognizable superhero or villain from a published book, comic, television program or film. The event will be free to attend, but donations & sponsorships will be accepted to benefit Columbia public schools.

KOMU has a video about the event, and the Missourian has a story as well. According to the news story, volunteers are needed for the event to break the world record. For more information call 573-823-1308 or e-mail seanspence@earthlink.net.

Update: I’ve posted more details about the event & changed the main link above to their official website instead of their planning website.
