The Isotope Award for Mini-Comic Exellence is now accepting submissions for it’s 2008 entry! Coinciding on the same weekend as the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco, the award spotlights one mini-comic creator out of the thousands of entries received and has helped launch the careers of notable creators such as Josh Cotter (Skyscrapers of the Midwest), Danica Novgorodoff (Slow Storm), Rob Osborne (1000 Steps To World Domination), Daniel Merlin Goodbrey (The Last Sane Cowboy) and Max Riffner (Quick Step). It is a great opportunity to be noticed by some of your mini-comics peers so I highly encourage anyone who has a mini-comic out there to enter! Submissions are being accepted until midnight, October 24th. For more details visit the Isotope post right here.

Planet Comicon is coming up in a couple weeks and I am going to have a table in Artist’s Alley. I would like to extend an invitation to any local creators who would like to have their books sold or given away at my table, I should have plenty of space. Just shoot me an email at testtubecomics@yahoo.com if interested. I would also encourage anyone who has April 5th and 6th free to go to the convention. Planet Comicon is a little more intimate than some of your bigger cons and they get some really great guests to attend, which makes it really worthwhile. Hope to see you there!
Update: Kirstin has a con report up on her blog, and she also did a podcast interviewing people at the con.

Update: Because of freezing rain and ice, the Pitchers and Pitchers event has been canceled. We are planning a reschedule, so check back later.
Midmococo’s second Pictures and Pitchers event has been decided! We are going to meet at Gumby’s Pizza Saturday, December 8th, at 7:00. Bring your pencils, your pens, your paper, your appetite and your thirst! Just like last year, this is an excuse to get together with you fellow mid-Missouri comic creators and enjoy working on your art while sharing a tasty beverage. For directions or more information please contact us. Hope to see you there!

Once again 24 hour comics day was a success, not only in terms of participation and experience but also in gaining attention from the local media. The Columbia Missourian came by after the event to interview the last creators standing, including Kelly, Keith and Kirsten. You can read the story at the Missourian’s Web site.
We also had television coverage from KOMU for the first time. It was a short segment but it managed to get really good clips of almost everyone who was present at the event. Watch the clip with KOMU on Demand.
I am extra happy with the coverage we received this year as it will hopefully garner more interest in the comic book community that we have here in Columbia. Again, I’d like to thank Boen and Steve at Quinlan Keep for hosting the 24 Hour Comic Event. I was extremely happy with the attendance and level of enthusiasm everyone had. It’s always a pleasure to be in the same room with such talented people, and it always inspires me afterwards to get my butt in gear and get some more work done. I really hope it has done the same for all of you. It seems like we may have some new Midmococo regulars after this event, and that, in my opinion, makes this year’s 24 Hour Comics day the biggest success of all.
Thanks again to everyone who showed up, and I hope to see you all at one of our meetings really soon!

I stopped by Quinlan Keep and Boen’s dad had a couple of names of people also interested in participating in the event this year, so it sounds like we’re going to have the same turnout as last year, if not better! I’m really excited about that. I did want to give you all a heads up to make sure everyone gets there at about 11:00-11:30 to make sure we can get the seating set-up all situated before the event begins.
Also, Kristin finished the flyer for the event and it looks great. I will be going around downtown during my lunchbreak to put them up wherever I can. I will mainly concentrate on getting them up around downtown and then later putting them up around Mizzou. If anyone can think of anywhere else to post them or would like to help out please let me know as I have the master copy with me and can make extra copies.
Looks like this is going to be another solid event for us! Looking forward to seeing you all there!
