The September 2nd Midmococo meeting had a visit by a reporter from Vox Magazine. Her report on the group is now up as a blogpost on the Voxtalk blog. She even decided to draw her own comic as you can see on the right.
The first ever DoDeca-Con took place in Columbia Mo. on May 4th-6th 2012 at Kemper Arena. We had some local creators on two panels, and we recorded the panels in mp3 format for your downloading pleasure:
During the 24 hour comic event at Artlandish Gallery we had a couple of Missourian reporters checking in on us throughout the day. They’ve compiled a story about the event on the Missourian neighborhood blog.
Midmococo’s 24 Hour Comics Day event was a huge success this year thanks to the hard work of Scott. I don’t think it could have gone any better and the space at Artlandish was perfect. Thanks to everyone who participated and thanks to Artlandish for providing the space.
In case you missed out on the event, you can read about it in the story the Missourian wrote: A drawn-out, comical day.
If you did participate, don’t forget to scan your work and publish it on the Web so we can link to it in a future post.
This month’s issue of Vox Magazine features a story about our own inline skating, local super hero, Keeley, created by Keith Chan. In the article, our past featured creator gives insight on how he creates his comic and why he uses Columbia as inspiration.
Fighting crime, CoMo style: Local artist gives Columbia a female superhero
24 Hour Comics Day 2008 was a huge success. We had a record turnout of 16 participants and most stayed the entire 24 hours. Thanks to everyone who came and made the event so much fun.
I also want to take a moment to thank our sponsors! Thanks to the Columbia Art League for letting us use their classroom space and thanks to Nick-N-Willy’s Pizza for the cheap food. 24 Hour Comics Day wouldn’t have been possible without their support.
As a follow-up, I’ve linked to all the publicity, comics and photos I could find from the event. I’ve also included Vimeo and YouTube links to some video interviews. I wish I could have gotten everyone interviewed, but I wanted to draw some comics myself! If you’ve got something to add, let me know and I’ll include it too.
The Maneater‘s report on our last meeting came off the presses today and it looks good (even if they didn’t mention www.midmococo.com anywhere). Read it with a bit of caution, though. Accuracy checking didn’t exactly happen with this story. That’s okay, it’s mostly right. If it brings new people to the meetings then it’s worth it!
Once again 24 hour comics day was a success, not only in terms of participation and experience but also in gaining attention from the local media. The Columbia Missourian came by after the event to interview the last creators standing, including Kelly, Keith and Kirsten. You can read the story at the Missourian’s Web site.
We also had television coverage from KOMU for the first time. It was a short segment but it managed to get really good clips of almost everyone who was present at the event. Watch the clip with KOMU on Demand.
I am extra happy with the coverage we received this year as it will hopefully garner more interest in the comic book community that we have here in Columbia. Again, I’d like to thank Boen and Steve at Quinlan Keep for hosting the 24 Hour Comic Event. I was extremely happy with the attendance and level of enthusiasm everyone had. It’s always a pleasure to be in the same room with such talented people, and it always inspires me afterwards to get my butt in gear and get some more work done. I really hope it has done the same for all of you. It seems like we may have some new Midmococo regulars after this event, and that, in my opinion, makes this year’s 24 Hour Comics day the biggest success of all.
Thanks again to everyone who showed up, and I hope to see you all at one of our meetings really soon!
Thanks to everyone who made 24 Hour Comics Day a success. Thanks goes out to Quinlan Keep for hosing the event. We appreciate it! We had a great time and a lot of awesome work was created. We’ll link to some of the comics once they have been scanned. Until then, you can check out some photos of the event in the slide show below.
Jim Gibbons, from the Missourian, attended the last Midmococo meeting for a story he was working on about local comic creators. He ended up interviewing Zac, Scott and me and we all contributed a self-portrait as an illustration. He did a great job explaining what we do at Midmococo meetings and why we get together. Go give it a read!
